Your How to Guide – Dressing For the warmer season

Your Guide to dress well in the warmer season

Even though it’s been darn cold these last few days and you are probably still wearing hats and gloves. we are in spring and summer is just around the corner.

This is our how to guide to dress well in the warmer weather. No it doesn’t include baggy basket ball shorts and a washed out baggy T-Shirt and yes this season is a season to dress well in too, no excuses.

Joining us in show casing the different looks is Sven-Goran. He is our newest member of staff and puts on everything we tell him to;) We love him! Say hello to Sven-Goran.

Lighter coloured trousers and a light weight un constructed jacket for when you are feeling light in spirit. Wear these on days and evenings out. Here Sven-Goran is show casing how you can look great and be comfortable in any given moment.

Sven-Goran has chosen to pair the trousers with a soft white shirt, that are perfectly matched with the white sneakers and an olive jacket that instantly dresses the outfit up. Take the jacket off and you are casual. Play around with different colours and texture on your jacket and you have different different looks.

Linen shirts. There is nothing better than a linen shirt when the sun is shining and you are either running after your kids in the park or lounging around a pool at a Mr and Mrs Smith hotel.  You can wear linen with denim, chino or shorts, what ever takes your fancy.

Sven-Goran decided that he wanted to have a relaxed look for the day, with a no button style and pull over style shirt with a softer light denim.  The no-button style gives the comfort and relaxed look that he wants.  Normally a big fan of blue he decided to spice it up with some colour in his sweat shirt and Espadrilles.

Pull over Shirt look

Shorts. Every man needs at least 3 pairs of shorts in his wardrobe.  In the right short you can look so so great!  We think a dress short, a swim short and a more relaxed in between short. No short cuts – pun intended.  For the more dressy short choose a more fitted look, as well as for the swim shorts. For the in between one enjoy some more space and a relaxed fit.

Sven-Goran is on holiday and chose a cotton and linen mix short in blue. He loves these shorts as they are so versatile and works in almost every short occasion, pub, cafe, the city, the country side. He chose to pair them with a short sleeved linen shirt in black that he’s draped over a crisp white T-shirt for contrast. Yes short sleeves are not out – actually they are in. He decided to show off a bit as well and choose a pair of sunglasses with blue tinting to match the shorts.

IMG_4933

Espadrilles – a pair of Espadrilles are a must in the summer. They work with chinos, denim and shorts. In the café around the pool with the kids. In short it’s the best 70 GBP that you have ever invested. On top of this ours are hand made in Spain. Sven-Goran has been showcasing his in all the pics. But just in case we have one more here.

IMG_0178

A soft draw string trouser. This style of trouser is a mix between a chino, sweatpants and suit pant. And we love it. Because of the mix – it works everywhere, to an occasion, to work, to the pub, you name it. Depending on what you combine it with you can dress it up and dress it down. On top of it – it’ is ultra comfortable! Bye bye sticky boring suit pants.

Sven-Goran has a love for long sleeved T-shirts. Perfect for weekend wear. So the trousers are perfect as he wants comfort. As it’s still a bit chilly he decided to put on a jacket in a cardigan style. All done!

How to resist middle age and get fit for an iron man

I have always said that Dappad is more than clothes, it’s a way of life. A life of joy, style and ease. When you look good, it’s easier to take on the day head strong. I take a lot of inspiration from people around me and in the world. One of them are Rich Roll – the first vegan to complete the Ultraman challenge on Hawaii and the EPIC5 Challenge something many said wasn’t possible.

Screen Shot 2017-04-26 at 10.49.24

At 40 Rich Roll was an overweight entertainment lawyer living on what he calls the window diet. Anything that he could see in a window he would buy and eat. Having become out of breath just by climbing a set of stairs he decided that he had enough.

He took out his bike jumped in the swimming pool, overhauled his diet, became a dedicated vegan and only two years later, 50 pounds lighter, and fueled by nothing but plants, he surprised the triathlon & ultra communities by not only becoming the first vegan to complete the 320-mile über-endurance event, but by finishing in the top 10 males (3rd fastest American) with the 2nd fastest swim split — all despite having never previously completed even a half-ironman distance triathlon.

This was the start of Rich’s new life, a life of health, compassion and living a life that you truly want to live. He is an inspiration and an example of courageous healthy living.

Screen Shot 2017-04-26 at 10.48.11

In 2012, Rich became a #1 bestselling author with the publication of his inspirational memoir Finding Ultra: Rejecting Middle Age, Becoming One of the World’s Fittest Men, and Discovering Myself. Taking up where the book leaves off, in 2013 Rich launched the wildly popular Rich Roll Podcast, which persistently sits atop the iTunes top-10 lists. In 2014, Rich & his wife Julie Piatt published the bestselling cookbook and lifestyle primer, The Plantpower Way: Whole Food Plant-Based Recipes And Guidance For The Whole Family.

Not stopping at that in May 2010, Rich accomplished an unprecedented feat of staggering endurance many said was not possible. Something they call the EPIC5 CHALLENGE– a odyssey that entailed completing 5 ironman-distance triathlons on 5 islands of Hawaii in under a week. Commencing on Kauai, they travelled to Oahu, Molokai and Maui before finishing on the Big Island, following the course of the Ironman World Championships on the Kona coast.

Screen Shot 2017-04-26 at 10.44.21

But what makes Rich truly remarkable is that less than two years prior to his first Ultraman, he didn’t even own a bike, let alone a race one. Although he competed as a butterfly swimmer at Stanford University in the late 80’s, Rich’s career was cut short by struggles with drugs and alcohol — an addiction that led him astray for the next decade, alienating friends, colleagues and family, landing him in jails, institutions and ultimately rehab at age 31. Although sober, Rich soon found himself 50 pounds overweight; the furthest thing from fit.  And then everything came to head on the eve of his 40th birthday.

Rich’s plant-fueled feats of boundary-pushing athleticism have been featured on CNN and major publications including The New York Times, Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine, The Huffington Post, Stanford Magazine, Men’s Health Living, VegNews, Triathlete, Outside, 3/GO Magazine and Men’s Fitness Magazine, which named Rich as one of the “25 Fittest Men in the World.”

Along with his wife and four children, Rich resides in Malibu Canyon outside of Los Angeles. When he isn’t writing, podcasting or spending time with his family, you can find him lost on the remote trails of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Screen Shot 2017-04-26 at 10.50.30

If you find this inspiring, visit Rich’s site http://www.richroll.com and sign up to his newsletter and podcast. I listen to it every week. For any man that wants to jump straight in to it he is also holding a retreat on Ireland starting the 24th of July, so very handy for any UK based man. I have attached the link below.

Peace + plants as Rich says and I would just add style

The 6 Do’s and Don’ts for Business Casual

Oh no – oh yes – what do you actually think about the new dress code that your office now use? Business Casual. Even though you say hate suits, it’s still a comfort as it’s easy and safe. With this new dress code. What to wear and what not? Dappad loves this new dress code and in our home of Scandinavia Business Casual has been the norm for a long time. If you know how to dress you always look smart even if you’re wearing denim. Just look at Bobby Axelrod;)

So show the world who you are. Bye bye boring.

Here are the Do’s and Don’t. Rock these and make them your own.

Chinos or Trouser

Do invest in a pair of well fitting tapered chinos. Choose a dark colour such as Navy, Grey or Black. This pair of trouser will serve you day in and day out.

Don’t go out and buy a high waist wide legged khaki – or you risk ending up looking like Donald Trump at his country club.

Screen Shot 2017-04-11 at 11.38.20

Denim

Do invest in a well fitting dark denim with a tapered leg. Choose minimal detailing.

Don’t walk in to the office with a wide legged light wash jeans with rips and other ghastly detailing, Nobody looks good in that.

Screen Shot 2017-04-10 at 15.42.37

Shirts

Do invest in a range of smart causal shirts. A shirt that has a softer touch to it compared to starched suit shirts. Get a mix of some solid basics with some more patterned ones, a stripe a cheque a dot. We love the way Bobby Axelrod wears darker coloured shirts.

Do not buy shirts with cufflinks. This is not business casual. A cufflink do not go with denim.

Screen Shot 2017-04-10 at 15.40.57

Knits

Do invest in good quality knits with no logos or branding. V- neck or C- neck – what ever takes your fancy. Go for staple colours so that you can mix and match with your overall wardrobe.

Do not throw on your branded and 10 year old sweatshirt that you found in the back of your wardrobe and really is only good for painting the house.

Screen Shot 2017-04-11 at 11.41.28

Short sleeves.

For business casual you can get away with a well fitting polo and T-shirt. The top should be slim and not baggy and in a neutral colour.

Screen Shot 2017-04-11 at 11.44.56

Again the fit is key and also please stay away from baggy, Hello I’m wearing a T-shirt 2 sizes too big kind of thing.

Shoes

For business casual a smart trainer is ideal. It works with your whole wardrobe. If you want to dress up slightly more then choose a chunkier dress shoe such as a Chelsea boot or brogue.

Don’t buy pointy or squared shoes and wear them with a wide legged jeans. This look won’t win you any points in the Bobby Axelrod league.

Keep these simple guidelines in mind and everything else will follow.

In modern society we have become far removed from the start of a product to when it finally ends up in the store and in our baskets. We don’t think about how that piece of clothing or food ended up with us. We just see the final product, but every item has a history. Just because a piece of clothing or food costs one thing in the store, is that the true cost?

The clothes we sell at Dappad are more expensive than your average high street clothing. Why is that? Because we want to provide you with beautiful pieces of clothing that lasts season after season and where the end product is not only a great piece of style and of high quality, but you can wear it knowing it has been responsibly produced. Dappad wants to be part of the change where fashion becomes sustainable and socially responsible.

We always look out for small independent brands and designers that not only make beautiful clothing but also has a story to tell and want to make a difference, where craftsmanship and individuality is valued. We don’t work with the big high street brands enough people already sell these clothes, if you haven’t heard about our brands then that’s only good.

The Dappad man enjoys the value of looking good with zero effort. When you look good on the outside you also feel better on the inside. We help building beautiful functional outfits that work throughout the year freeing up our customers time and mind clearing out the noise. We don’t do sales because our clothes are timeless and we don’t compete on price. We compete in value –we make men look good effortlessly.

Our customers get a personal and warm service with personal treats, and if you don’t appreciate that then you are probably not our customer – no hard feelings. We are not for everybody – we are a company for the modern man that wants the best in life.

“Making Men Look Good”

The fashion and world today

Smart man in the market

Pitti is a celebration of men’s style and it is fantastic to see such a gathering for men’s wear. If you look back only a few years these events were much smaller and didn’t gather close to the attention it does now. However as the acceptance for men to take care of their appearance grows, so does the market for men’s wear. It is actually predicted to overtake the women’s market in just a couple of years. It is a reflection of the times. We are moving towards a softer and in many ways warmer  society where equality between men and women are put at the forefront. I know it doesn’t always seems this way – but this the case. Fashion is always a reflection of the times and you can see this in what we are wearing now.

pitti2

A few years back in the heat of the banking boom and the WAGs, men’s suits were big and women’s heals were sky high. The fashion back then was a reflection of the society that we lived in. In today’s slightly more softer and equal society where the new companies such as Facebook and Air BnB are setting the trends the silhouettes are the opposite. Men are wearing slim fitting suits, and very often no suit at all and and women are wearing men’s shoes. I love my monk straps!

I love the fashion and trends of today. They are understated and soft. To be well dressed is not about choosing outrageous pieces with big logos and recognised brands it is about choosing the best quality and fit that money can buy. To dress well is not complicated. A well fitting slim style chino with a slim white shirt paired with an unconstructed blazer and either a pair of clean looking trainers or a pair of loafer or monkstraps and you are good to go. Less is simply more.

pitti4

I felt encouraged by what I was seeing at Pitti. What the best dressed people were wearing, how they were styling it and what the brands were showing.

At Dappad we tend to keep things simple. A white shirt isn’t just a white shirt. It is a white shirt where the material is carefully chosen and treated, and where the fit has been thoughtfully optimised by the designer. We focus on staple pieces that can be worn over and over again and combined with a range of garments giving you a versatile and easy to wear wardrobe.

pitti3

In the end you have your personal style the one that is true to you, pick the pieces that fits with you, make it your own and wear it confidently. Fashion changes but Style Endures.

“Vain trifles as they seem, clothes have, they say, more important offices than to merely keep us warm. They change our view of the world and the world’s view of us.” Virginia Wolf

Thank you for your time

How to Make an Impression at Work

Being respected at work is important to many men. From rocking the smartest suit to being a hit with the lunch crowd, there is usually lots of competition in the office. If you’ve recently started a new job or want to be in line for that big promotion, it’s time to make an impression. Read on for some expert tips from the Dappad man.

  1. Confidence

The Dappad man at work is always confident on the outside – even if realistically he doesn’t quite know what he’s doing. A confident man is well respected; people above him see him as competent and people below look up to him. Remember though there’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance so walk it carefully.

  1. Dress to Impress

In many industries, personal appearances matter a lot more than they should. A worker who dresses well makes a good impression on bosses, clients and co-workers and are thought to be more intelligent. So how should a man dress for the office? The main advice is to be individual – how will you stand out in a sea of suits? Make sure your formal wear is expertly tailored and add a personal touch with accessories. Don’t be afraid to use colour within your outfit – black, grey and white is awfully boring, however classic the effect. If you’re struggling to find the perfect work attire, a Dappad personal stylist can help and choose pieces according to your preference.

A man dressed smartly

  1. Always be Early

Whether it’s a standard day in the office or a crucially important meeting, don’t just arrive on time – be there early. The early bird makes an impression because they give the reflection of a hard worker. They put in extra time for preparation, research etc. Even if you have nothing to do, arriving 10 minutes early will put you in good stead with the people that matter at the top.

  1. Be Aware of Body Language

Especially with creating first impressions, body language can play a large part of the process. Simple gestures including how you hold yourself and how you shake hands will help people form an immediate view of you. Body language can also tell people how confident or nervous you are, so practice walking and talking in a mirror to see what it appears like to others.

Spring Summer Outfit

Stay cool in grey

We love the colour grey, as it can be worn all year round – but right now it’s the shade of the season. From trousers to T-shirts, it’s all about grey this year. Invest in a couple of pieces which are different shades of grey and layer them together for a fashion forward look. You can also accessories with grey bags and shoes.

A zip up jacket

The British summer is notoriously unpredictable and as you know, while you may be enjoying a cold one in a beer garden one day, it could feel like winter the next. Summer layering is essential, and we highly recommend a thin zip up jacket. Depending on the rest of your outfit and the occasion, the ensemble could be completed with a suede jacket, a denim jacket, a bomber or a casual hoody.

3 Basic Style Secrets Every Man Should Know

Creating your style is of course about allowing your own personality to shine through via your fashion and grooming choices. Your considered look should reflect the way you see yourself and in turn how you desire the world around you to perceive you.

  1. How a Suit Jacket Should Fit

The suit jacket or blazer is an icon in itself and can finish any business or smart casual look with sophistication and refined charm. But it can also be a horror show if worn badly, you don’t want to look like a fresh out of college estate agent who’s borrowed a jacket from their father’s wardrobe.

Follow these unwritten jacket fitting rules to ensure you’re wearing it right:

  • The shoulder padding of any jacket is part of what gives this item a sharp look and creates that slick, sharp silhouette it’s intended for. Ensure the pads end as your shoulders do, they should not hang out over your shoulders (too big) or stick up before the edge (too small).

  • The collar of your shirt and the lapel of your jacket should meet, there should not be any gap whatsoever while stationary and standing upright.

  • Cuffs of the shirt should show no more than a 1/3 inch out from under the sleeve of the jacket.

Screen Shot 2016-03-07 at 15.33.42

  1. How to Pick the Perfect Tshirt

We all like to scale it back and rock our casual look between work and formal wear. But when it comes to the ultimate casual piece, the classic Tshirt, how can we ensure we’re still keeping our style on point?

  • Keep the neck crew or a tight V neck. The classic crew neck works with most body types and keeps the classic Tshirt look in play. There are so many alternatives that have dropped in and out of trend but we’d wager the classic crew trumps the cleavage exposing V-neck and drop necks every time, unless you’re auditioning for Geordie Shore of course.

  • Tshirts were originally designed as close fitted undershirts but have come a long way from their origins. The ideal fit depends on your body type. It should highlight your chest and shoulders without revealing parts of your body that may not be as in tune with your upper torso. However, the opposite also applies, too loose and you’re doing yourself no favours at all and your look simply becomes scruffy.

Screen Shot 2016-03-07 at 15.37.26

  1. Investing in Your Footwear

With every major look or occasion there is a perfect footwear choice to match. If you find yourself ill equipped with your footwear wardrobe and the rest of your outfit could have its overall flair degraded or down right ruined. You ultimately end up building your look around the small range of footwear available to you. This just won’t do.

Investing in your footwear will not only add a considerable air of sophistication to your looks, but good quality shoes will ultimately stand the test of time with all of their elegance intact.

Now we’re not suggesting you need to have 100 pairs of shoes in your wardrobe, but invest well in all of the key areas you’re likely to turn to often. Here’s a few to get you started:

  • White Trainers – An incredibly versatile part of any man’s casual wardrobe, keep it slim and simple to ensure they can be used for any occasion including paired with shorts in the summer.
  • Brown Brogues – An absolute must for your formal, business and smart casual needs, another very versatile piece of footwear that cries class. At least one pair of flawlessly polished brown brogues will see you through no end of semi-formal occasions and date nights.

5 Habits of the Stylish Man

What is it that makes a well-dressed man? It’s not that he keeps up with the latest trends, because a stylish man can pull of any look. Style is timeless, and it’s something that every man can possess with a little work. If you want to be the guy that turns heads in the street for all the right reasons, then read on for five habits you can adopt to be instantly stylish.

  1. He always wears well fitted clothing

A few inches here and a couple of inches there can make a HUGE difference to your overall appearance. Ill-fitting clothing is the number one sin that many men commit. If a piece of clothing is too tight, too loose, too long or too short, stylish men discard of it right away. A perfect fitting garment is rarely found in a high street store – you may have to make friends with a tailor to find an ideal size.

  1. He takes tailored shopping advice

Think personal shopping is just for the ladies? Think again. Imagine how great you’d look 24/7 if you had your own personal stylist, just like celebrities do. Well it isn’t as difficult as you may think. Stylist services such as Dappad allow men to choose certain preferences, and then await a delivery of a personalised selection of clothing from stylish brands. Full of style staples and must-have garms for the modern man, this is the future of shopping. The stylish man is never afraid to take advice from the experts or try something new.

  1. He takes good care of his hair

Being considered stylish isn’t all about the clothes you wear – it’s also how you present yourself. Hair needs to look effortlessly styled, when in actual fact a lot of work goes into it. Depending on your hairstyle, it should be in good upkeep and you should have a trustworthy barber with expert grooming skills. Facial hair should also be well groomed and not left to look unruly.

  1. He invests in timeless pieces

While well-dressed men obviously keep up with the latest fashions, they don’t spend the majority of their money here. They know what is more important – classic style and timeless pieces. Certain clothing is an investment, such as a dinner suit or a really good pair of shoes. A stylish man won’t mind paying top dollar for these items because he knows he’ll be able to wear them forever, as they will always be in fashion.

  1. He doesn’t believe the hype

Ultimately, the stylish man recognises which items will suit him and which won’t – and it has nothing to do with a logo. A well-dressed man doesn’t care about brands enough to buy into the logo culture. He respects clothing brands for quality and fit, but won’t buy something with the masses for no reason. He is happy to be introduced to new, quality brands which he may have never heard of before and wear them with pride.

You can be that stylish guy who is the envy of everyone in the office – just keep these habits in mind.

Exercise Program for the Dappad Man

We have now waived good bye to 2015.  Have you made your New Year’s resolutions? Are you planning to welcome the New Year all geared up to work out or work out more? Beware, according to The Wall Street Journal New Year’s resolution to exercise starts to waver in the third week of January. Simply vowing to exercise does not work. We need a plan that is realistic enough but at the same challenging to be worthwhile. Dappad has asked fitness consultant Fabio Domingues to give us an exercise routine that can help convert our intention into action.

The exercise routine

Day 1

Exercise Sets Repetitions/Distance
Goblet Squat 3 12/12/12
Walking Lunges 3 20/20/20
Bear Walk 3 20 meters
Renegade Row 3 10 each side
Wide to close push ups 3 10 each
Combo front to side plank 3 30 seconds
Kettle bell Swings 3 20/20/20
Farmers walk 3 30 meters
Rowing (Tabata) 1 4 minutes

Day 2

Exercise Sets Repetitions/Distance
Sumo deadlift to up right row 3 10/10/10
Jump squat 3 10/10/10
Step Up 3 12 each leg
Burpee to box jump 3 10/10/10
Kettle bell Snatch 3 10 each side
Mountain Climbers 3 50/50/50
Turkish Get up 3 10/10/10
Incline leg raise 3 12/12/12
Sprints 10 100 meters each

Notes:

  1. Weights used should be adequate to the number of repetitions suggested. If you can do more than the number asked with the weight you are using, increase it. If you can’t finish the repetitions with proper form, reduce the weight.
  2. The exercises should be done as a group. Do one set of each for the number of repetitions asked, and repeat all, till you complete the number of sets suggested.
  3. Rest time should be kept to the minimum. Enough to have some water and start again.
  4. The distance suggested for Bear Walk and Famer Walk can be adjusted to the space you have. If short of space, do as many turns as necessary to complete the distance. If too easy, increase de distance.
  5. Combo front to side plank: start – (hold for 30 seconds each position) – front plank – side plank – front plank – side plank (other side) – front plank. Transition should be done with your core engaged and without resting. Total time: 2 ½ minutes.
  6. Rowing (Tabata protocol) – Rowing 20 seconds very fast and 10 seconds at a slow pace. Repeat 8 times.

The program is adequate for everyone. If your level of fitness is more advanced, play with the load in the exercises. Challenge yourself to the point where you can do the repetitions suggested.

Executing the program correctly will increase mobility and fitness, drop body weight and help with definition. You will notice improvements in your posture and endurance.

You should be able to execute the program in 40 minutes or less. You can do the exercises before work, on your lunch break or quickly after work without compromising your day. Remember work out as many times as you see fit. Results can be speed up if you increase the number of sessions.

We do recommend a daily routine alternating between programs 1 and 2. Take 1 or 2 days off. Avoid more than one session a day. If you have time and want to do something else in the day after the exercises, do a Tabata protocol on the bike, elliptical trainer or step-ups, and if you brave enough, sit ups or battle rope.

The best of Winter Wines

The best of Winter wines

When the mercury drops look for full bodied hearty, warming wines with notes of spices. The kind of wines that we think are perfect for a fireside conversation. You need to think big and powerful for reds, flavoursome and aromatic for your whites.

White selection

Viognier and Roussanne are the two grapes that come to mind for winter whites.

Think Condrieu from the Rhone region, or chateauneuf du Pape Blanc

Our recommendation, Promesse de l’Ange 2013 from Chateau Sainte Marguerite in Provence, a delicious viognier. Ripe apricot, honeysuckle, white flowers, an oily texture with a nice delicate finish. This is a fresher wine than Condrieu (at a fraction of the price), with scents that one feels envelops the glass and the drinker. Only 3600 bottles produced yearly.

Screen Shot 2015-11-25 at 13.35.26

Red Selection

This is the perfect time for a Chateauneuf du Pape or a big and bold Barolo

Our recommendation : Chateauneuf du Pape La Nerthe 2011.

This is a very well made typical Chateauneuf du Pape, a masculine powerful wine with intense complexity of dark forest fruits, black cherry, spicy hints toasted and ripe notes with present noble tannins. It can stand next to any strongly flavoured dish, and will pair fantastically with your chestnut stuffed turkey.

Tesla model S P85D

Screen Shot 2015-10-15 at 09.19.32

Tesla Model S P85D is surprisingly fast and easy to drive. Tesla claims that it reaches 60 Mph. in 3.2 seconds with a battery driven motor, delivering 691 HP. Power delivery is immediate and it feels like a sports car in the lowest gear revving at the torque peak all the time. Put it simple – it is shockingly fast! Frankly it is difficult to find a traditional car capable of this, especially if you consider that you have space for four friends with luggage and a range of 250 miles if the battery is fully charged. Regarding Tesla, it should be noticed, that if you are keen on an SUV you should wait for the all-new Tesla Model X just released.

BMW I3

Screen Shot 2015-10-15 at 09.23.06

BMW has always been known for their delivery of a unique driving experience. With the I series they are taking this to the next level. The BMW I3 expresses prestige, futurism and environmental consciousness. With its stubby design and its revolutionary carbon-fiber/aluminium structure it is perfect for driving in the city. Zero emission, a total range of 81 miles, agile driving experience due to its low center of gravity, and then most importantly 170 HP and acceleration to 60 mph in 6,5 seconds. If you are anxious about the range, an optional range extending gas engine is offered providing you with a total range of 150 miles.

BMW I8

Screen Shot 2015-10-15 at 09.24.23

A car that cannot go unnoticed is the BMW I8 plug in hybrid. With its swan-wing doors and a supercar attitude it is inevitably a revolutionary car. This car will make every man comfortable and differentiated from the mass. Leave all the mainstream 911s, Bentleys and Maseratis alone and feel dapper in this futuristic car providing you with 357 HP and an astonishing acceleration from 0-60 Mph in 3,6 seconds. The BMW I8 seats four in interior rarely seen in any other car. It is a plug in hybrid composed of a three-cylinder turbo charged engine that teams up with electric motors giving you a driving experience as expected from a BMW – 50/50 weight, agile handling and incredibly sharp steering and last but not least all with a laughing fuel economy of less than 30 mpg.

Take part in the new realm of personal transportation and start talking electric cars!

Anderson’s belts for men. A black belt in style.

Mr Carlo Valenti was an Anglophile when it came to style. He wore hats and Savile Row suits. He also was a man ahead of his time to choose an English name to represent his Italian business. Mr Valenti launched his first collection of belts in Parma in 1966 under the name Anderson’s to show appreciation for his British tailors ‘Anderson and Sheppard’. The mix of English sounding name with high quality leather design and manufacturing topped up with Italian flair has resulted in an exceptional artisan product.

Dappad recommends:

Reversed Tubular’ belt

If you like your belt to have a vintage look and feel, the reversed tubular style with an internal seam is right for you. Made by hand from high quality smooth leather and finished with antiqued buckle the belt is available in thirty colours. It takes six to eight weeks and fifteen stages to produce one single piece. Wear it with everything form jeans to chinos to add some sophistication to your everyday outfit.

andersons leather belts

Woven belt

andersons vowen belt

Whether woven from leather, suede, wool or cotton Anderson’s elasticated woven belts have become the brand’s signature products. If you’re a classic guy single tonal style might be most appropriate. If you love contemporary pieces add a multi tonal woven belt to your everyday outfit. You can go as bright as you like! With over sixty different combinations, there are endless possibilities.

We hope you like these handmade, hand-sewn, hand-tooled and hand-tanned high quality belts. And with an average price of £75 you won’t need to tighten one to buy one. Don’t wait up, belt up!

Men in Blazers. Join the Barena Venezia club!

Sandro Zara founded Barena in Venice Italy in the early 1960s. Mr Zara started his fashion journey selling textiles. With time the business naturally expanded into making unique handcrafted pieces of clothing inspired by the surroundings of the Venetian Lagoon and its inhabitants – local farming, hunting and fishing communities. People who occupied ‘baro’ the territory between the mainland and water had a distinctive way of dressing.

barena 3

Venetian people and their way of life were the main inspiration behind Barena’s name and the brand’s identity and this influence is still evident in the designs today. Barena’s creative team of Massimo Pigozzo and Francesca Zara, the daughter of Sandro offer contemporary mixed of tradition and modernity using only the highest quality natural textiles, wool or linen depending on the season. From locally sourced fabrics, through the design and production process Barena garments have truly earned their ‘made in Italy’ label.

The designs don’t change much from season to season instead the classic Barena silhouette is updated with new fabrics, textures and colours. It is a collection of well-made basic staples with no logos and unnecessary details. Quality, comfort & style!

Dappad’s favourite pieces from Barena’s fall-winter 15/16 collection are their unconstructed blazers. You will look smart without compromising on the fit and style. Casual tailoring done to the nines!

Do you still need more convincing about this brand? David Gandy is a supporter. He famously wore Barena Vanezia waistcoat during The London Collections Men SS16 in June this year. Don’t miss out, join the Barena club today!

A different face for every phase. How many watches should a man own?

There are many brands to choose from and even more models. Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe, Blancpain, Breitling, Hublot, IWC, Jaeger Le Coutre, Patek Philippe, IWC, Panerai, Jaeger Audemar Piguet, Parmigiani and Richard Mille. A watch is one of the few ways a man can wear jewellery and because of that the importance of a well chosen watch cannot be underestimated.

Dappad recommends:

For when you are feeling sporty. the diving watch: The father of the diving watch is the 1953 Rolex Submariner that Sean Connery wore as James Bond in “Dr. No”. The first watch to go below as far as 100m. The watch has also been the main source of inspiration for diving watches made ever since.

Screen Shot 2015-09-24 at 09.17.30

For when being a gentleman matters. the dress watch: A beautiful piece of jewellery used for formal occasions, like dinner and black tie parties. Elegance is key when choosing a dress watch. Dappad favours Jaeger le Coultre Grand Reverso Duo.

Screen Shot 2015-09-24 at 09.28.37

For when you are feeling adventurous or maybe flying your own plane, the aviator watch: Made for pilots before electronic navigation was a prerequisite in airplanes. The aviator watch took off when Cartier made the first one back in 1911. Today the most famous one is probably Breitling’s Navitimer, still worn by many pilots as a symbol of their profession.

Screen Shot 2015-09-24 at 09.39.27

For when you turn the engine on, the driving watch: Driving watches are made for action sports where a chronograph feature is a must for measuring times with high precision. The watch taps into masculine universe where speed and horsepower are the rules to play by. Tag Heuer Formula 1 Calibre 16 Chronograph 44mm is one of the well known driving watches out there.

Screen Shot 2015-09-24 at 09.41.22

For everyday: Choose a minimalist watch that takes you from day to night, from the City to Soho. Your everyday watch is elegant, simple and practical. Very famous in the 60’s and worn by some of the greatest style icons like Serge Gainsbourg, David Bowie and Mick Jagger and the Dappad’s personal favorite is a vintage Omega Seamster Deville.

Screen Shot 2015-09-24 at 09.43.59

The watch you hand down to your son: A good watch will last for generations. It is considered a symbol of family tradition and the bond that exists between a father and a son. As the famous saying goes you don’t’ own a great watch, you simply just look after it. Dappad recommends Blancpain Basel 2014 Villeret 8 Days.

Remember to wear your watch like you wear clothes. Always with confidence!

What shoe are you?

Cheaney has been making shoes in their factory in Desborough, Northamptonshire since 1886, using the Goodyear welted process – the footwear equivalent to the off-side rule. Knowing your offside (hasn’t the rule been tweaked again this season?) is important if you’re a diehard football fan, but if you’re a connoisseur of traditional shoe manufacturing all you need to know is that Cheaneys can be repeatedly resoled, and if looked after properly will last season upon season – ‘investment shoes’ for the long haul.

So without further ado here come the shoes:

Oxfords in black

Everyman needs a pair of classic, fuss and details free black dress shoes like the classic Oxford in calf leather made out of the finest leather with no defects or blemishes. Understated and low key but at the same time exceptionally smart these will make a perfect foundation to formal and casual looks.

Oxfords

Brogue in Plough Suede

Modern Brogues originated in Ireland from a rudimentary shoe that had holes punched in to allow for water to drain off when crossing a wet terrain. Today the perforations are purely decorative and brogues upgraded their status from country footwear to an extremely versatile shoe that can be worn with jeans, trousers or chinos – so having a pair is almost a no brainer. We love Cheaney Arthur III in Plough Suede.

Broughes

Monk-Strap in Bronze

If you want a break from laces Monk Strap shoe is a great alternative. Get a pair in timeless brown leather, like Cheaney Holyrood Double Buckle Monk Shoe. This contemporary style will look great with dark coloured denim, neutral tailoring or midnight blue suit.

Screen Shot 2015-08-26 at 11.18.00

Chelsea Boot in Black

If you’re after a slightly edgier look a pair of black Cheaney Threadneedle boots is a must. Thanks to the versatile silhouette they pair as well with jeans as with a suit. And with the mod era still trending they will look great with casual suiting and roll neck ensemble. Or paired with black skinny jeans and a plain t-shirt, knit or a shirt for fuss free cool look. You will probably end up wearing them more often then you think.

Chukka Boot in Black

If you’re a more of a traditional dresser lace up boots are probably a more suitable choice. Cheaney Shadwell Chukka boots in supple black leather with no detailing are classic and timeless. This style can be worn with anything from casual looks to tailored smart suiting. Lace up and step out in style!

chukka boot

Hardy Amies once said: “It is totally impossible to be well dressed in cheap shoes.” And we agree. Good quality, elegant, hand crafted shoes will give you an edge in style stakes. Remember always, the style starts from the bottom up!

Dappad has recently visited Suited & Booted, a London based charity that helps vulnerable men get back on their feet by fitting them with smart clothes and shoes so they can attend job interviews. They are short on shoes!

If you buy any of the five Cheaney styles featured in today’s blog and donate a pair of shoes that you no longer need to Suited & Booted we will offer you a 10% discount on your new pair and give a 10% cash equivalent to the charity together with your donated shoes. Please be mindful that all donated shoes need to be in a good condition so the men who walk in your shoes look stylish and feel confident!

Thank you for your support.

Enter Autumn the Dappad Way. Key Pieces to Own this Season!

The rollneck jumper – Major trend for knitwear this winter. You can wear it on its own as an alternative to a shirt or use it as a layered piece underneath another item of knitwear. You could also try it with a blazer or a suit for a 60s inspired look.

Tiger of Sweden roll neck jumper

Printed shirt – Designers continue to add graphic elements to their collections. Floral, camouflage, polka dot and abstract printed shirts set out to be a key piece this winter. If you feel overwhelmed by bold designs start with a subtle microprint or check pattern for a smart visual look to lift your every day outfit. If you can carry off a pattern explosion please remember to balance it with a solid coloured tie.

Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 10.03.14

Unconstructed Blazer – One of the main tailoring styles for this season is a three button unconstructed blazer with rounded shoulders and a slightly shorter length. If you’re looking for a feeling of comfort without compromising on the fit explore designs by Italian brand Barena Venezia. Their wool blend blazers offer a great alternative to a more button-up tailoring. Perfect when you want to look smart but feel comfortable.

Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 10.08.54

Denim – A good pair of jeans will become a backbone of your wardrobe. Denim for winter should be dark: black, black blue or grey. For a modern look chose styles designed for a slim silhouette. The slimmer cut guarantees sharper lines and better fit. Stretch also plays important role to accommodate slim and skinny shapes so you can actually bend your legs! Paige and AG denim brands offer many variations on the slim cut jeans to fit most builds.

Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 10.13.40

Trousers – The growing trend is for more generously cut pants however the tailored, slightly cropped tapered leg trousers will still have a big impact this winter. You could do no wrong wearing Tiger of Sweden black Transit trousers in cotton-dyed twill or slim fit Harris in wool stretch poplin. If you’re a fan of J Linderberg classic chinos add another pair to your wardrobe in dark navy or dark grey malange flannel twill.

Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 10.16.02

Shoes – Every man needs a good pair of shoes! Cheaney lace up Chukka boots, masterfully crafted in England from supple leather with no detailing, are classic and timeless. This versatile style can be worn with anything from casual looks to tailored smart suiting.

Screen Shot 2015-08-20 at 10.25.00

Scarf – Let’s not forget about accessories. When autumn comes knocking at your door the simplest way to update your wardrobe is with a new scarf. If you decide to buy one this season make sure that it is a big one. Wrapped it around your neck a single time or wear it twice-looped with a knot.

We have given you Dappad’s passport to winter style and are hoping that you will fly into the colder weather looking stylish, feeling confident and warm.

Our Third Objective Social Responsibility

214

Our first step in contributing is our partnership with the London City based charity Suited & Booted. Suited & Booted is an amazing charity that helps vulnerable, unemployed and low income men back in to employment by providing them with suitable interview clothing. Last year they helped 1000 men. Yay!

At Dappad we know how important clothes are to people, it is your first business card before you have even said hello. So we thought this is great!

When we pick up your Dappad box, send us old clothes and we give them to Suited & Booted. Like this you don’t have to leave the house to get rid of your old clothes, it helps a person and it reduces waste. Win Win Win.

Suited & Booted is currently in need of leather shoes so this and next month we are having a campaign to try and collect leather shoes for them. Buy a pair of Made in England Cheaney Shoes – give a pair back, get 10% off your new shoes and we donate 10% of the revenues to Suited & Booted. Again Win Win Win.

Thank you

Our Business and Beliefs. Why we started Dappad.

We started Dappad based on three Objectives – in this post we are sharing two of them.

We want to create an effortless and enjoyable shopping experience for modern men.

We want to make modern men feel confident with less effort style wise and socially.

the dappad story blog post 1 copy

1. An effortless and personal shopping experience

The modern man wants to look good and he doesn’t compromise on quality. However his big dilemma is time and that is why a curated and personal service is key for him. The easier he can get the things he wants the better.

But there is a gap between what the modern man wants and what is offered to him when it comes to shopping so we decided to do something about it. Let’s make shopping personal again, let’s make it well informed and tailored to the needs of the modern man.

You may love or hate to shop –but you want to look good and you are smart enough to know that you don’t have to work for it.

Welcome to the world of Dappad.

2. Make modern men feel confident with less effort style wise and socially

We are picky with the brands and recommendations that we make, because that is how we live our own lives. We don’t work with brands because of the logos. We work with brands because of the quality, craftsmanship and design that the brands represent. Because of this our members can rest assured that they are dressed in the best of brands, and the best of pieces from these brands. We are ahead of the curve and we make sure our clients are ahead of the curve. Any piece that has gone in to our collection has undergone the scrutiny of the Dappad eye, and this how we achieve our second objective:

Making Men Look Good

Our Belief

Style and fashion exist not only in clothes but all around us; in the streets, in every day life, it has got to do with ideas and everything we do. After all the way you dress is your way of saying to the world who you are without having to speak a word.

The Dappad Team
